Legacy Home Care’s Role in WWI Vet’s Historic Journey
(Silver Spring, MD, July 17, 2008) --- Without a little help from Legacy Home Care, the only living veteran of World War I may not have been able to make his recent historic journey to Capitol Hill. Legacy Home Care proudly assisted 107 year old Frank Buckles during the program in his honor at the United States Capitol on June 18th. Like many older Americans, Mr. Buckles needs a little extra help to maintain an independent lifestyle.
"At 107 years of age, my dad doesn’t get around quite as well as he used to. For him to be able to attend the event in his honor, we knew he would need help. When we researched who we could trust, Legacy Home Care became the easy choice." explained Susannah Buckles Flanagan, daughter of the veteran.
Mr. Buckles is among the estimated 84,331 Americans who on Nov.1, 2007 hold the distinction of being centenarians, a group now believed to be increasing greatly in numbers per the U.S. Census Bureau. Many of these centenarians, along with their “younger” family and friends need assistance in remaining as independent as they safely can. In a survey by AARP, Fixing To Stay, nearly all of those over 75 years of age (95%) want to continue to age in their homes. As is the case with Mr. Buckles, this is not always possible without outside assistance.
Private duty home care agencies, such as Legacy Home Care, offer well trained certified nursing assistants (CNAs) who can support clients’ with their personal care needs along with taking care of many necessary household tasks. Registered nurses (RN) make home visits, creating a care plan for each individual client and supervising the CNAs working with those clients. It is often this extra added support from Legacy Home Care that can allow a person to maintain a higher quality of life due to their increased independence.
Legacy Home Care is the subsidiary of Family & Nursing Care, the DC area's leading and most highly regarded resource for private duty home care.
